The Secret Stars weekly article isn't suggesting the lineup you should use this week, rather its purpose is to identify players who represent extreme value at their current salaries for the week. Selecting these players will give you an opportunity to use such players as Demaryius Thomas and DeMarco Murray in your lineup. Here are our Secret Stars for Week 13:
These picks courtesy ScoutFantasy.com's own Daily Expert, Nate Weitzer (@nweitzer7 on Twitter)
QB Ryan Tannehill $6,900 @ NYJ – After facing a couple tough defensive fronts (BUF and DET), Tannehill lit the Broncos up for 228 passing yards, 3 TD, and added 15 rushing yards and a TD for a huge fantasy day. Now he'll face a Jets team that's completely listless, and is allowing opposing QBs to sport the highest passer rating (109.4) in the NFL this year. Over his last four games, Tannehill is sporting a 9:2 TD:INT ratio and a 72.5% completion rate. He's also 4th amongst QBs with 276 rushing yards this year, and is quickly becoming one of the most underrated options in DFS.
QB Zach Mettenberger $5,800 @ HOU – You'd have to be crazy to play a rookie QB on the road against a defensive line that features J.J. Watt, right? Maybe, but maybe that's why Mettenberger is one of the sneakiest GPP plays of Week 13. He was served a slice of humble pie while making his first NFL start against Houston in Week 8, yet still managed to throw for 299 yards (oof, just missed that 300-yard bonus) and 2 TDs to offset his 2 turnovers. Mettenberger is a strong-armed QB that likes to take shots, and should be able to throw against the Texans 31st ranked pass defense.
RB Alfred Morris $5,500 @ IND – I was foolish enough to assume skinny Denard Robinson and the Jaguars talent-deficient offensive line could shove that Colts around like the Patriots did in Week 11, and that was not the case. However, the Redskins rushing attack is far more formidable, and you can expect Jay Gruden to continue to lean on Morris as he tries to help his new QB Colt McCoy manage the game. Morris is averaging 19.65 DK points and has scored 4 TDs over his last 4 appearances. He continues to dominate Washington's backfield and is the type of power back that can give an undersized Colts front seven fits.
RB LeGarrette Blount $4,400 @ GB – Is Jonas Gray out of the doghouse? Will the Patriots revert to their Week 11 game plan on offense, or throw the ball 50+ times again? Only Bill Belichick knows right now, and trying to siphon through his automated responses to the media won't help much, but I'd still trust Blount to earn a slight edge in playing time based on his 6.5 YPC average on 12 totes last week. The Patriots would be wise to control the clock to keep Aaron Rodgers off the field, and the 245-pound Blount is nearly unstoppable when he gets going. Take advantage of tournament players that steer clear of the Patriots ongoing backfield mysteries and take a chance on the veteran.
WR Jarvis Landry $5,400 @ NYJ – Landry continues to impress for the Dolphins, and may finish the year as the No. 1 receiver on that team. Tannehill continues to struggle on deep throws to Mike Wallace, so OC Bill Lazor is calling more underneath throws to Landry. The LSU product scored twice on "stick" routes in last week's shootout at Denver, and will clearly find some openings against a terrible Jets secondary. Until his price rises, he remains a fantastic play in all formats.
WR John Brown $4,500 @ ATL – The Cardinals predictably ran into a wall in Seattle last Sunday, and Brown was limited to 3 catches for 61 yards in a tough matchup. After facing a secondary that gives up the fewest points to opposing WRs, Brown will do battle with a Falcons secondary that allows the most passing YPG (284.1) in the NFL. Yet another talented rookie that's made some big plays this season, Brown played on 74% of offensive snaps with Larry Fitzgerald (MCL sprain) sidelined. Fitz is looking questionable to return in Week 13, which would lead Drew Stanton to pepper Brown with targets.
TE Delanie Walker $4,800 @ HOU – Walker caught many DFSers (myself included) napping after he missed Week 11 with a concussion, but proceeded to torch the Eagles for 155 receiving yards in Week 12. Most of that production came in garbage time as the Titans fell behind early, and this week's game could follow a similar narrative if Arian Foster (groin) returns to run all over the Titans. Walker caught 4 balls for 47 yards and a TD in Mettenberger's first game against the Texans, clearly established on-field chemistry with the rookie in their latest performance, and should have game flow on his side in Week 13.
DST Jacksonville Jaguars $2,300 vs. NYG – Yes, this is a serious suggestion. Jacksonville's defense has been far from a laughing stock in Gus Bradley's second year as head coach, and would rank much higher in terms of yardage allowed if Blake Bortles could protect the ball on offense. The Giants defense is struggling mightily, yet somehow costs $600 more than the Jags on the road. This is the cheapest I've seen any defense aside from a couple units going up against elite QBs, and while Odell Beckham Jr. should do plenty of damage on Sunday, Eli is far from elite. The Jags D/ST averages 6.8 FPPG at home, which would be a fine result given the salary cap relief this unit provides.
