Week 13: IDP Studs and Sleepers
Here we are with another batch of waiver wire possibilities with rest of season potential, weekly must-start studs and one-hit wonders who can help you more than you might expect for your IDP needs.
HAND-SELECTED WEEKLY PICKS
The following players are my own personal choice to have an excellent game this week. Call it clairvoyance, but it's more about matchup and situational awareness. From Weeks 4 to 9, I tried to dig deep, usually selecting players from outside the Top 25 at their position. For the rest of the season, all players will be available to choose from. This should help include players who are actually more relevant to IDP leagues. A hit now means the player finished among the Top 20 in fantasy scoring at his position.
SEASON-TO-DATE SCORECARD
DT: 4-5 | DE: 2-7 | LB: 6-3 | CB: 2-7 | S: 5-4
DEFENSIVE TACKLE
Last week's pick: Gerald McCoy, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – three tackles, two TFLs (hit)
Jurrell Casey, Tennessee Titans at IND: Casey hasn't done much in his last two games. Expecting a big rebound game against the Colts' average-at-best offensive line.
DEFENSIVE END
Last week's pick: Julius Peppers, Chicago Bears – one tackle (miss)
Cedric Thornton, Philadelphia Eagles vs ARI: 'Zona allows the most points to DL. Thornton is Philly's leading DE IDP and he is excellent against the run.
LINEBACKER
Last week's pick: David Harris, New York Jets – five tackles, three assists (miss)
Darryl Sharpton, Houston Texans vs NE: I could just pick Top 10 guys and make it easy on myself, but no! This week it's Sharpton, Houston's man in the middle. New England is allowing the second-most fantasy points to LBs over the last five weeks.
CORNERBACK
Last week's pick: Brandon Carr, Dallas Cowboys – three tackles, two assists (miss)
Tramon Williams, Green Bay Packers at DET: Williams has come on strong in recent weeks, catapulting himself into the Top 15 at his position.
SAFETY
Last week's pick: Tyrann Mathieu, Arizona Cardinals – four tackles, two PDs (miss)
Eric Weddle, San Diego Chargers vs CIN: Cincinnati is giving up the most fantasy points to DBs over their last five weeks. Weddle should be a lock here to perform very well.
IDP STUDS
These players have to be in your lineup every week, regardless of opponent! These lists are in no particular order. Each player is listed by position, which assumes you must start a player at that position.
DT: Kyle Williams, Marcell Dareus, Jurrell Casey, Jason Hatcher, Gerald McCoy, Dontari Poe, Chris Jones
DE: Robert Quinn, J.J. Watt, Muhammad Wilkerson, Chandler Jones, Carlos Dunlap, Calais Campbell, Rob Ninkovich, Lamarr Houston, Sheldon Richardson, Michael Johnson, Osi Umenyiora

DEFENSIVE TACKLES
Note: Ranked outside Top 10 owned DTs on MyFantasyLeague
Jared Odrick, Miami Dolphins
This week it's back to citing familiar names from previous columns. There are always way too many great IDPs not getting enough attention. Odrick is a perfect example, especially since he's averaging about three tackles and a half sack per game.
Linval Joseph, New York Giants
Joseph is typically ranked right around 10th among DTs, yet Ndamukong Suh is the second-most owned DT. The former ECU product deserves more recognition.
DEFENSIVE ENDS
Note: Ranked outside Top 20 owned DEs on MyFantasyLeague
Sheldon Richardson, New York Jets
The rookie has no business being outside the Top 20 owned DEs on MFL, especially considering the number of IDP dynasty leagues there are on the site.
Adrian Clayborn, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Perhaps one more week recommending Clayborn will push him into the Top 20 owned DEs. In his last two games, he's posted eight tackles, four assists, five TFLs and a sack. Huge numbers.
LINEBACKERS
Note: Ranked outside Top 30 owned LBs on MyFantasyLeague
Wesley Woodyard, Denver Broncos
Woodyard appears to finally be back at 100-percent. Take a chance on him after a rough first half of 2013.
Ahmad Brooks, San Francisco 49ers
Over his last three games, he's compiled 12 tackles, two assists, six TFLs, six sacks, three PDs, one FF and one INT. That's stuffing the stat sheet.
CORNERBACKS
Note: Ranked outside Top 15 owned CBs on MyFantasyLeague
Josh Wilson, Washington Redskins
It's not just Deangelo Hall who can contribute as a fantasy CB from the Skins. Wilson recently entered the Top 15 by recording eight tackles, three assists and one PD last week.
Johnathan Banks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The rookie has back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts and will likely see even more playing time with Darrelle Revis dealing with a groin injury..
SAFETIES
Note: Ranked outside Top 20 owned Ss on MyFantasyLeague
Jeff Heath, Dallas Cowboys
Dallas has used Heath in a starting role recently and he's responded with great numbers. Last week, he finished second in CB scoring with five tackles, one assist, one FR and one FR TD. He also had six tackles, three assists and one PD back in Week 11.
Donte Whitner, San Francisco 49ers
Since San Francisco Week 9 bye, Whitner has stepped up. In those three games, he has 10 tackles, four assists, two TFLs,four PDs, one FF and one INT. He will push toward the Top 20 if he continues to score about 10 fantasy points per game.
