Week 9: Pickups of the Week
Waiver Wire Watch: Looking Ahead to Week 9
As we head into week nine of the NFL season, here are some possible pickups that might still be available in your league...
QB Derek Anderson, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
If you are reading this and Derek Anderson is a free agent in any fantasy league that you are in, then stop reading this and go pick him up immediately! Anderson came off the bye week to have another good game with 248 passing yards and 3 TDs in the Browns' win over the Rams. We recommended picking up Anderson several weeks ago, but he continues to put up good stats each week. Anderson has thrown for 1744 yards and 17 TDs, with 8 interceptions (which is a 249 yards per game average) this year for the Browns.
QB Kellen Clemens, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
It appears Chad Pennington's days as the Jets' QB could be over as reports are that Clemens could become the starting QB in New York headed into week nine. Clemens replaced an ineffective Pennington in the fourth quarter in Sunday's 13-3 loss to Buffalo, but he was not much better only going 5-12 for 67 passing yards, with 0 TDs, and 2 interceptions. I don't recommend picking up Clemens should the Jets make the change, however some leagues start 2 QBs and any possible change is worth mentioning to fantasy owners.
QB Sage Rosenfels, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Rosenfels, the seven year NFL veteran, came in to replace the injured Matt Schaub for the second week in a row. After throwing for 290 yards, plus 4 TDs in week seven, Rosenfels threw for 176 yards, plus 1 TD in week 8. I recommend keeping an eye on Schaub's injury status. If Schaub is out this week, then Rosenfels could be worth getting for a bye week replacement for desperate fantasy owners or fantasy owners in leagues that start 2 QBs.
RB Jesse Chatman, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
With Miami starting RB Ronnie Brown out for the season with an injury, Jesse Chatman started for the Dolphins getting 16 carries for 79 yards and 3 receptions for 21 yards. Last week, Chatman came off the bench to gain 73 yards and a TD on 7 carries. Chatman is very familiar with Cam Cameron's offense, so he could be a decent fill-in for him. If he is still a free agent in any league you are in, then I would recommend fantasy owners grabbing Chatman up immediately.
RB Ron Dayne, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Ahman Green was a surprise inactive for Sunday, allowing Dayne to get the start against the Chargers. Dayne only got 47 yards on 17 carries, but his start is worth noting for fantasy owners (Adimchinobe Echemandu also had 10 carries for 62 yards). Keep an eye on Green's status for this weekend because if he is out, then whomever starts at RB for Houston has a favorable matchup against Oakland's #29 run defense this coming weekend. Dayne is only worth picking up for owners in very large leagues, or owners very desperate for RB help.
RB Chris Henry, ---
MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
The rookie second round draft pick from Arizona has gotten increased playing time the last two weeks. Although he still remains LenDale White's backup, he has moved up the depth charts in Tennessee due to Chris Brown's injury situation. In the last two games, Henry has gotten 11 carries for 57 yards, plus a TD and 4 carries for 48 yards, plus a TD. Henry has more value in Dynasty and Keeper League formats, but he is worth fantasy owners in normal redraft leagues keeping an eye on.
