Week 9: PPR Watch
RB Vick Ballard, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Avoid - Ballard's highlight reel touchdown was certainly impressive, but I got very few other good feelings about the Colts running game for fantasy purposes. With Donald Brown back, Ballard immediately returned to a timeshare and averaged fewer YPC. The touchdown catch was great, but it was also his only catch of the week and only his 4th catch in the last 3 games. With little PPR value, few guaranteed carries, and Delone Carter inexplicably stealing goaline carries, there is very little reason to believe Ballard is startable (even in deeper leagues). If you have Ballard on your roster, I'd hang on to him another week to see how the split with Brown develops, but I wouldn't expect much against a Miami defense that's allowed the second fewest yards to running backs and only 3 touchdowns all year.
RB Ronnie Brown, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Sleeper - Brown is a pretty uncommon sleeper. Once an early round pick, Brown is now an aging vet who is unlikely to rise to fantasy glory. Make no mistake, the fact that Brown is on Malcom Floyd's heels as the Chargers' second best option in the passing game, means terrible things for the Chargers offense and it's big play potential. Nevertheless, if you're desperate for a bye week filler in deep deep leagues, Brown might be a decent shot in the dark against a dreadful Kansas City defense. Sure, his ceiling is low low low, but he's the 6th most targeted running back in the league, and coming off a 7 catch for 85 yard performance where Ryan Matthews had yet another critical fumble... who knows? At the very least I think Brown will get his usual 3-4 catches and 4 or 5 carries.
