Week 14: PPR Watch
RB Peyton Hillis, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Avoid - After missing most of the middle part of the season with a hamstring injury, Hillis has technically been back for a couple weeks now (for fantasy purposes, he's still been a no show). Hillis followed up a 19 carry for 65 yard performance against the Browns with a 12 carry for 45 yard performance against the Ravens. While there's no shame in low production against Baltimore, there just isn't anything to get excited about with the Madden cover boy. Even when he plays, he hasn't been heavily involved in the passing game -- his YPC on the year is a dismal 3.5. Now he's dealing with a sore hip. I fully expect Hillis to make it out on the field and get the bulk of the carries, but starting him against the Steelers in Pittsburgh is fantasy suicide. If you're a Hillis owner that made it to the playoffs, you did it playing someone else. Please continue.
WR Pierre Garcon, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Avoid - Garcon has had some big moments this year -- few bigger than his garbage time explosion against New England where he caught 9 passes for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns. A day like that is big enough to put him back on everybody's fantasy radar. My job however, is to make sure you don't get tempted to start him in the first week of the playoffs. Prior to week 13, Garcon hadn't had more than 3 catches and 35 yards in a game since week 8, and hadn't scored a touchdown since week 5. If for some reason you started Garcon last week, then to quote the immortal Han Solo 'Great shot kid! Don't get cocky!' The Ravens are not a defense that lets off the gas, and they've only allowed 7 touchdowns to wide receivers on the season -- third best in the league. Garcon is too risky. Avoid.
WR Devin Aromashodu, ---
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE
Sleeper - If your league is 12 teams and up (and full of even marginally savvy owners), your free agent list probably looks a great deal like mine. Empty of any hope for fantasy value. So what do you do when your star wide receiver leaves the game early after hurting his OTHER hamstring (I'm looking at you Andre Johnson) and you're desperately in need of a replacement? You scrape the bottom of the barrel. I'm not going to tell you that Aromashodu is anything more than that, but after getting 15 targets in week 13, he deserves a mention in this column. Sure, he only turned them into 6 receptions for 90 yards (and he'd only had 1 reception in each of the previous two weeks), but with Michael Jenkins on IR (and Percy Harvin starting to warrant some serious attention) Aromashodu should continue to get opportunities to produce. The Vikings' secondary is non-existent, and their chance of keeping the game close on the road against the Lions is minimal. Minnesota is going to have to air it out, and another 6-9 targets seems pretty realistic. Plus he has a pretty awesome last name. That's got to count for something.
