Rams WR Danario Alexander opts against more knee surgery
An NFL player choosing against surgery is rarely news, but when the story contains St. Louis Rams wide receiver Danario Alexander
and his left knee, it's noteworthy.
Alexander underwent an MRI earlier this week on that knee and it didn't turn up much. At least not enough for Alexander to go under the knife again.
"He has chronic swelling and he wanted to get it checked, take a look at it," head coach Steve Spagnuolo said of Alexander to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We wanted to do that. There's a little degenerative change in there, but no active injury. One option could be to go clean it out in there right now. But then that would set him back a couple of weeks. He decided he didn't want to do that, he wanted to fight through it. We'll continue to treat it and maintain it."
If Alexander had decided to go with the clean-up procedure, it would have been at least the sixth surgery on his left knee.
Fantasy Analysis:
At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Alexander's size has always been tempting, especially in an offense without a clear No. 1 WR. But a tease is all he's ever been in the NFL, mostly because of that knee. If can stay healthy, he could become a big threat for the Rams. But don't bet on it. If there's one Rams receiver I want, it's Danny Amendola, and it's not even close.
