Eagles' Jeremy Maclin was tested for cancer, has been medically cleared
The mystery surrounding Jeremy Maclin
's health has been revealed. He told FOX Sports' Jay Glazer on Wednesday that he had been dealing with a cancer scare since his birthday, May 11.
During the offseason, Maclin began experiencing rapid weight loss, iron anemia and irregular results from blood tests. To find out what was wrong, Maclin underwent a body scan that showed on May 11 that some of his lymph nodes were "enlarged and hot," a possible sign of lymphoma.
But after going through numerous tests in the following months, doctors finally told Maclin today that cancer has been ruled out.
"That's first and foremost, I want everyone to know I'm fine, I'm healthy," Maclin said only one hour after learning from his doctor that his final test came back negative. "I was tested for everything, and every single test came back negative. I don't have mono, I don't have AIDS, leukemia — all the things people were guessing on, there was nothing. I was being tested for lymphoma and thank God everything has come back negative."
Maclin said he didn't want to talk about his health -- or have anyone to speak on his behalf -- because he didn't really know what he was fighting. He also said he was "frustrated" with all of the rumors that surfaced about him. So what is the reason Maclin has been too sick to participate in training camp?
"It was all caused by an inflammatory virus," he said, "something that just runs its course through your body or you can treat with medicine. I didn't need medicine. It's just something I had to deal with."
Fantasy Analysis:
Pretty amazing story of what Maclin had to endure, including having some lymph nodes removed through his belly button last week. There's no word on when Maclin will return to the field, but he's obviously headed in the right direction. Like I said before, he'll need some time to regain his strength, but this is extremely good news and it sounds like Maclin should be back sooner rather than later.
