Jaguars make series of moves with receivers
While Marcedes Lewis
and Jason Hill will be sticking around in Jacksonville, Mike Sims-Walker
appears to be on his way out. Sims-Walker wrote "Sorry to say my time is up" on his Twitter account Thursday night, foreshadowing an official end to his four-year career with the Jaguars. He scored seven touchdowns last season, but had just two games in which he caught more than four passes or 50 yards.
The team signed Lewis to a $7.3 million franchise tag as well on Thursday. Lewis is coming off setting career-highs in many categories and tied a franchise record with 10 receiving touchdowns.
With Sims-Walker gone, Hill may become the Jags' new No. 2 wideout next to Mike Thomas. Hill and the Jaguars came to terms on a two-year deal Thursday. He came to Jacksonville during the middle of the 2010 season. He played in six games, recording 11 catches for 248 yards and one touchdown.
Fantasy Analysis:
Lewis is the most valuable fantasy player in this note since he's a gigantic end zone target. He finished fourth at the position in fantasy scoring, but since the yardage totals are not always shiny, he's basically a boom-or-bust play each week. Yet, he has steal value if he can repeat his 2010 year because he probably won't be within the top-10 drafted tight ends during the summer. Franchise tags may be deemed worthless in the next collective bargaining agreement but if so, the Jags will likely sign Lewis to a long-term contract. Hill couldn't get much of anything done in San Francisco, so I don't expect him to suddenly produce like a Pro Bowler in J-Ville. But the Jags are so thin at WR, Hill will compete for a starting job. He's someone to watch in very deep leagues. MSW will land somewhere else, but it's hard to believe fantasy owners can trust him. He was absolutely dreadful last season, and he played in multiple games last season in which he didn't catch a single pass.
