Report: Jets to retain LaDainian Tomlinson
LaDainian Tomlinson is under contract with the New York Jets for 2011, but there was some question as to whether he would actually be a Jet at the start of next season. The Jets have cut three players over the age of 30 this week, but according to league sources, Tomlinson won't be one of them; they say Tomlinson will be back. Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said after the season that he expects Tomlinson to stay on, but also said "things could change." Tomlinson, who will turn 32 in June, will earn $2.425 million next season and will probably play a supporting role in the backfield behind Shonn Greene. Tomlinson rushed for 914 yards and six touchdowns last season.
Fantasy Analysis:
Tomlinson surprised many with his start in 2010, but it's clear that he can no longer be a team's No. 1 back. He wore down in the second half and didn't surpass 50 yards rushing in the final seven weeks of the regular season. He can probably take no more than 15 touches per week if the Jets are interested in keeping him fresh for the full season. Greene will see more work next season, but his bump will probably be reduced as Joe McKnight
gets more playing time as well. Greene will have the most fantasy value, but I am wary of drafting any part of this trio just because this committee should be fairly even.
