Jaguars' Maurice Jones-Drew out 4 months
Maurice Jones-Drew
has been in the news recently for his criticism of and subsequent apology toward Jay Cutler. But putting his tweets to the side, MJD released a piece of news Tuesday that was more interesting than anything he said Sunday on the Internet. While at an elementary school, a child asked Jones-Drew why he was limping. Knowing that media were in the building and ready to run with the latest on his health, MJD let the truth fly anyway. Jones-Drew recently underwent surgery to fix the torn meniscus in his left knee. But it was discovered that playing on the injury all season had resulted on bone rubbing against bone in the back of the knee. To fix all that will mean four months of rehab for him.
Jones-Drew suffered the knee injury in August, but played the season's first 14 games with it, racking up the second-most carries in the league. He finished fifth in the league with 1,324 rushing yards.
Fantasy Analysis:
According to that timetable, MJD won't be 100 percent until at least late May. He's still a top-10 pick for next season as he will continue to get a ton of touches. But even at the age of 26, there is some reason for concern. It's clear he didn't undergo just a simple scope, but something much more serious. Bone-on-bone injuries are never good for a player, especially a running back. I'll be interested to see how he recovers and I might shy away from him a bit next year. MJD's fantasy upside may have reached its apex.
