No longer the interim, Jason Garrett named Cowboys' head coach
The Dallas Cowboys' 2010 season was very unexpected, but they made a very expected move for their future Thursday, officially naming Jason Garrett their head coach. The two sides agreed to a four-year contract and held a press conference to announce the decision. "[Garrett] is truly one of our own," owner Jerry Jones said. "We know him well for the qualifications he has for this position. I know that he has spent his entire life preparing for this day. And he is well-qualified." Garrett was promoted to interim head coach after the Cowboys, who had dreams of playing in the Super Bowl in their own stadium, lost seven of their first eight games under head coach Wade Phillips. After Phillips was fired, the Cowboys went 5-3 with Garrett at the helm.
Fantasy Analysis:
For fantasy purposes, this news doesn't change much of anything. Garrett will still be the team's offensive coordinator, which is a positive for the team's fantasy-relevant players -- Tony Romo, Miles Austin
, Dez Bryant
, Jason Witten
, etc. The offense, even when led by Jon Kitna this season, was pretty explosive down the stretch; that shouldn't be any different with a healthy Romo back under center. The Cowboys will continue to a very attractive team to fantasy owners.
