Broncos fire Josh McDaniels
Update: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, The Broncos have named running backs coach Eric Studesville as interim head coach. Good news for Knowshon Moreno
?
Five wins in his last 22 games, Spygate 2, personnel decisions that backfired -- it was all too much for Josh McDaniels to keep his job. The Denver Broncos confirmed Monday that McDaniels has been relieved of all of his duties with the team. The Broncos are 3-9 this season, last in the AFC West. They lost at Kansas City on Sunday, 10-6. The firing comes a week after Broncos owner Pat Bowlen said he was keeping McDaniels as head coach in 2011 and that there would be no change. The team didn't immediately name an interim replacement. The final straw maybe have come last month when McDaniels was fined $50,000 by the NFL for not immediately reporting an illegal recording of a San Francisco 49ers practice before the teams played in London in October. McDaniels accepted responsibility for his role in the recording. Video director Steve Scarnecchia was fired for capturing the film.
McDaniels was asked about his job security earlier Monday and sidestepped the question.
"I am not worried about that," McDaniels said. "I am going to coach as hard as I can because that is my job and that is somebody else's decision."
That somebody else made a decision and now, head coach is McDaniels' job no longer.
Fantasy Analysis:
Fantasy impact of this move is yet to be known. The Broncos are at Arizona next week, so you should start all of your obvious players there -- Kyle Orton, Knowshon Moreno, Brandon Lloyd
. I don't think any of their values will be heavily impacted by the new coach unless he wants to give Tim Tebow more time at QB. But I am fine with these three players going forward and I don't expect them to slow down without McDaniels. It was obvious that he had to go.
