Ravens activate Ed Reed from PUP list
The Baltimore Ravens have cleared safety Ed Reed to play and activated him from the physically unable to perform list. His teammate, safety Tom Zbikowski is also out this week so Reed should play immediately. The NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reported this news as well as that the Ravens would be placing Jared Gaither on injured reserve to make room on the roster for Reed. "He's had a really good week," head coach Harbaugh said. "I don't want to speak for him. It looks good. From a coaching standpoint, I'm probably going to be cautious." Reed is cautious about his ability to play but with Gaither headed to IR and Reed being deactivated from the PUP list, he's going to find himself starting on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
Fantasy Analysis:
Baltimore is sitting at 4-2, playing the winless Buffalo Bills and now they'll be getting back one of their best defenders, Ed Reed. Reed is one of the best free safeties of all time. The Ravens pass defense is already third best in the NFL and it should only get better now. For those who own the Baltimore defense, this is nothing but good news. The Ravens have implemented a new strategy on defense which puts a safety at least 15 to 20 yards back on defense, with the desired effect of taking away the deep pass. In doing so, it shortens the field and keeps plays in the 10 to 15 yard range. The longest pass play they've allowed all season is only 44 yards. Ed Reed, a ball hawk safety if there ever was one, should flourish in this new role.
